5 departments in OAU where bagging first class degree is almost impossible

5 departments in OAU where bagging first class degree is almost impossible

OAU is one of the Universities that rarely produce first class students and the reason for this is best known to the lecturers.

Obafemi Awolowo University is a 'great' institution that has over the years developed a culture of glorifying students' failure.

OAU is one of the Universities that rarely produce first class students and the reason for this is best known to the lecturers.

Some lecturers in Nigerian Universities like to form bad guys with their students and they do that with first-class arrogance. A lot of students have had encounters with lecturers telling them they will not graduate, the lenient one would promise you a poor very grade irrespective of your performance in the test.

Lecturers like these according to the students abound in OAU and they wear their principle glorifying failure like a badge of honour.

Graduating with first-class from Obafemi Awolowo University is one of the most difficult things to achieve in Nigeria.

It is almost impossible because some departments in the University have developed a culture of not producing first class graduates.

While other departments produce graduates year in year out, these departments have proved that first class award is not a for everyone in their domain, not even for the most brilliant students.

Recently, Aarinola Olaiya broke a 28-year-old record in the University as she emerged the first student of Surgery to graduate with distinction in 28 years.

This prompted a conversation based on the conclusion of a Twitter Nigeria influencer that lecturers in a faculty or department that does not produce a first-class student in five years should be fired.

A lot of people reacted to this tweet and called out the department in OAU where it is difficult to make first class.

So, if you are considering admission into these departments, you have to prepare yourself for the culture. The culture of glorifying failure in OAU.

1. English

The OAU English department has not produced any first class student in more than three decades. According to a student of the department, the last distinction graduate of the department is now an old senior lecturer in the department. And ever since, no student has been dimmed brilliant enough to merit the award.

2. Geology:

If making first class in the study of the earth and its structure was a passport to heaven, no student studying Geology in OAU would make heaven.

It is that certain. So certain that the lecturers usually prepare the minds of the students that they can not get first class no matter how brilliant they are. Geology is one of the most dreaded departments in this university and for decades, no student has been celebrated in the department.

3. Surgery:

In Surgery department, it is a good news that no student has been able to make first class for the past 28 years. This seems to be a department where making first class is seriously frowned at.

Unfortunately, for the department, a  student of the department, Aarinola Olaniyan recently broke the jinx and her fellow students could not but celebrate her victory over the department.

4. Political Science:

This department has also failed to produce any first class graduate in so many years. This culture has even made some students to give up on chasing first class because first class has not happened to any student in the past and is not likely to happen in future.

5. Chemistry:

According to a graduate of this department, graduating with distinction in Chemistry is not as terrible as it is in Geology but it is rare to come across a first-class student in the department.

It takes like three to four years to see a first class graduate in this department, it is a serious issue but not as serious as the case in Geology and medical faculty.

However, this is not to say Nigerian Universities should distribute first class award to every Tom Dick and Harry, nevertheless, the students deserve to be rewarded appropriately for their efforts rather than victimizing them because the department or faculty wants to maintain a record of no first class.

6 Types Of Lecturers You Find In Nigerian Universities

Below Are The Types Of lecturers You Find In Nigerian Universities

1. The Strict One.

You see these types of lecturers ehn, don’t just mess with them, they don’t give a Bleep who you are, whether you are a slay queen or you are a father of four. They’ll wash you if you misbehave. Students fear them due to that fear factor.

2. The Wicked Ones.

They might be gentle, infact most of them are always gentle..they won’t say anything, but they re the ones that’ll make u get to 800level. U might be distributing their class, they’ll just be saying “keep quiet””keep quiet,” u wont know that he’s already marking your faces. U’ll just be seeing 39F. Nd u’ll be like “omo that course simple die, if I no get A make I die” after exam..

3. The Parent Type.

It’s the female lecturers that falls into this category most. They re the ones that tells you to remember the home u came from, how your parents sold their clothes to pay your school fees, how u need to be serious nd make good grades. They’ll be the one to tell to raise up your hands coz you're making disturbing their class.

4. The Womanizers.

This category of lecturers is very rampant, they are always very lively funny and accommodating. They notice every single lady in their class, they’ll be the one to know that u used a purple lipstick today but u used apink one yesterday, they re always calling ladies to answer questions in their class. U’ll hear. “You stand up yes you putting on mini skirt. What is so so so and so. Lady: keeps quiet for long. Lecturer: can u see your life, simple question u don’t know, instead u’ll be painting your faces about, see me in my car after the class, nonsense;”my sister u don enter am be that.

5. The Respected Ones.

Both students and lecturers respect them. Somehow somehow they’ve been able to earn it. Students re always quiet in their class, u’ll always want to listen to what he says, they re mostly the gentle and kind type.

6. The IDGAF.

You see these ones, they just don’t care, if u like be kissing each other in his class. It’s your life and your Father’s money. All he does is come in say what he has to say and get out if you like get it if you like don’t get it, it’s your problem. Their class is always noisy most times. Only the bookworms that sits at the front gains from their lecture. And their questions are mostly the toughest

UNIOSUN Governing Council Probes VC As NASU Accuses Him Of Siphoning N106m

The Governing Council of the Osun State University, Osogbo has inaugurated a three man panel to investigate the school Vice Chancellor, Prof. Labode Popoola who was accused of defrauding the institution to the tune of N106 million. The Non-Academic Staff Union of the University branch accused Popoola of financial impropriety. The union alleged that Popoola had since inception of his tenure in November, 2016, siphoned and mismanaged the state-owned institution's One Hundred and Six Million, Six Hundred and Seven Thousand, Five Hundred and Ninety-Two naira (N106,607,592.00).

This allegation is contained in a petition letter dated October 18, 2017 and signed by the Chairman and Acting Secretary of NASU, Comrade Isaiah Fayemi and Comrade Dada Kunmi respectively. The petition letter which was sent to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of UNIOSUN Governing Council, Mallam Yusuff Ali claimed that "Popoola had been doing everything in his power to discredit, silent and cripple NASU in Osun State University in order to get away with his financial impropriety.

" A copy of the petition letter which was obtained by our correspondent and tittled: "Reasons Why The Vice Chancellor, Prof. labode Popoola Is After NASU," reads, "Sir (The Governing Council Chairman), we wish to affirm to you that the VC, Prof. Labode Popoola has since inception of his tenure siphoned the sum of Six Million, Six Million, Six Hundred and Seven Thousand, Five Hundred and Ninety-Two (N6,607,592.00) naira to his personal coffer and has mismanaged over One Hundred Million (N100,000,000.00) naira.

" This does not include lopsided awards of contracts, inflation of contracts sum, jettisoning of due process in the award of contracts and turning himself to contractor. "

"Permit us to say that we are worried that the VC, Prof. Labode Popoola has been able to successfully commit all these under your watch as the Governing Council Chairman going by your antecedents. We are not also surprised because he (VC) has been boasting that he (VC) is in control of the Governing Council under you watch. Sir, his actions so far also confirmed the statement. "Mr Chairman Sir, we are reliably informed that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Labode Popoola has written against NASU to the Governing Council for a sole purpose of blackmailing our union NASU.

If the VC is not predetermined to unjustly deal with NASU in order to cover-up his dirt, why is he monitoring our congress? Or can't we gather together again as enshrined in Section 40 of Nigerian constitution of 1999 as amended.

"All these against NASU, he (VC) is doing because he must have been informed that NASU is the only union that can expose his financial impropriety. Sir, NASU members have refused to be intimidated, humiliated, and victimised by the Vice Chancellor or anyone at the corridor of power because our Union stands for truth, justice, equity and operates with facts and figures."

Meanwhile, NASU has called for the immediate probe of the allegations of fraud leveled against Popoola warning the Governing Council against sweeping the accusations under the carpet. The petition letter further reads, "We therefore call on the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Mallam Yusuf Ali and the entire members of Council to do the needful and convince the entire staff of the Osun State University that he (VC) is not in control of the Governing Council.

The leadership of NASU UNIOSUN branch will be available to stand by the allegations leveled against the Vice Chancellor even in his presence.

" We use this medium to again call on the Governing Council under your leadership to please make sure that these allegations are thoroughly investigated and are not swept under the carpet because if justice is prevented at this level, we would not hesitate to take a step forward by reporting to appropriate agency (ies) of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

" However, upon this petition, it was authoritatively gathered that the university's Governing Council in its meeting of Friday, 20th October, 2017, constituted a panel to investigate the allegations. Our correspondent reliably learnt that a three man panel was set up to probe Popoola.

The panel will be chaired by a Professor of International Relations from the University of Lagos, Prof Solomon Akinboye while other members are Mr. Awe from National University Commission (NUC) and Egnr. Nurudeen Adeagbo from the Osun state Ministry of Works. Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, when contacted by our correspondent simply described the allegations as a situation of "corruption fighting back in the university." Popoola also confirmed to our correspondent on the telephone that a panel was set up by the Governing Council to probe the allegations slammed on him by NASU. In his response to a text message forwarded to him, Popoola said

, " Just do your independent search on Labode Popoola as a person, a Scholar and an administrator. Find out how much Uniosun is worth in cash after years of profligacy and sleaze by the current petitioners.

"Find out how a VC has succeeded without government subvention to pay staff salaries in full before the end of the month, for his 12 months in the saddle. "Reflect also on what unionism has become in our clime- a tool of cheap blackmail by people who have no business being in the academia. We are dealing with a simple case of corruption fighting back."

Press Release: School Feeding Programme Reaches 17 States

fice Of The Vice President Press Release: School Feeding Programme Reaches 17 States

*Over 4m school pupils now eating one free meal a day.

*25,771 schools now benefitting from the programme.

*Also, N5,000 monthly Conditional Cash Transfer now funded in 16 states for 115,000 Nigerians.

Three more states have been added to the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, with an additional one million children now benefitting from it. They are Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Niger states.

This brings to 17 the number of states currently participating in the School Feeding Programme, a crucial part of President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s Social Investment Programmes, SIP, aimed at tackling poverty and hunger, as well as creating jobs for Nigerians.

The other 14 states already on the programme are Anambra, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Delta, Abia, Benue, Plateau, Bauchi, Taraba and Kaduna.

So far, in Cross River state, 117,750 children in 973 schools are being fed under the programme, while in Akwa Ibom, there are 171,732 children in 1,101 schools being fed. Niger State has a total of 710,880 being fed in 2,411 schools in the state.

In total, 4,773,064 schoolchildren in 25,771 schools in 17 states are currently benefitting from the school feeding programme.

This is a notable increase from the previous total of 2,918,842 schoolchildren from 19,881 schools in 14 states that had benefitted from the programme.

About 34,869 direct jobs have since been created from the School Feeding Programme across the participating states. In Cross River state, for example, 1,384 cooks have been engaged, while 1,309 cooks are currently engaged in Akwa Ibom State, and 5,924 cooks are engaged under the programme in Niger State.

Meanwhile, few days after the United Nations designated 17th October as the International Day for Eradication of Poverty, thousands of Nigerians identified poorest and most vulnerable have received the monthly Conditional Cash Transfer in Plateau and Cross River states.

About 115,000 beneficiaries are now being funded with the monthly N5,000 stipend in 16 states; including Borno, Cross River, Niger, Kwara, Ekiti, Kogi, Oyo, Osun, Plateau, Bauchi, Anambra, Jigawa, Taraba and Adamawa.

There are reported disbursement hitches in Benue and Anambra states, and they are being addressed. This mainly has to do with non-opening of bank accounts and enrolling beneficiaries. It is expected that by the end of next month the hitches would have been completely resolved and the beneficiaries in position to receive the cash transfers in those states.

The CCT scheme directly supports those within the lowest poverty bracket by improving nutrition, increasing household consumption and supporting the development of human capital through cash benefits to various categories of the poorest and most vulnerable.

The School Feeding Programme and Conditional Cash Transfer schemes are two of the Buhari administration’s N500 billion Social Investment Programmes, SIPs, aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians nationwide through welfare and empowerment programmes.

Obafemi Awolowo University Hostels Are Dirty (Disturbing Photos) - Education

OAU Ile-Ife Hostels Are Dirty, Rot In Learning Environment
In as much as this article is not meant to spite the school authority, as bunch of it is directed towards the students, the school authority still have a great role to play in ensuring good living conditions of their students though it seems the students have been left alone to continue living like animals.

Since I've been in this school I haven't visit any female hostel as most guys would have, so my assertions here are based on what I had seen in the three males hostel i.e Awolowo, Fajuyi and Angola halls. A visit to any of the aforementioned hostel in normal weekdays will make you speechless but a visit on Saturdays and Sundays will definitely make you puke. The sight of dirt flowing around will made you wondered whether you're truly in OAU or some god forsaken prison yard, to be honest with y'all most OAU boys behave less than worst animals you see out there, that you'll begin to question yourself whether you're truly in the midst of people or mindless animals.

The toilets will be left unkept even when there is water to do so, the rooms will be left untidy like some animal breeding grounds, clean up the room this hour, next hour its already chaos, there are waste bins around but no one is using them.

I'm using this opportunity to reach out to my fellow students to imbibe the culture of cleanliness, let's begin to reason like humans and do the right things, please make use of the waste bins, clean your environments.

To the school authority, more hostels need to be built, you can't accommodate more than 10,000 boys in 4000 spaces, the toilets are eyesore, they all needed to be fixed or replaced, and lastly we are not animals stop treating us like one.
We can't be living in bushes because weren't wilds.
