Lautech Governing board council meeting report

COUNCIL MEETING REPORT

Immediately after a hand shake with the Vice chancellor along with other students, he  addressed us openly at the floor of the school library while the governing council chairman only waved at us with a lovely smile. And as much as we hasten up to speak with him too, he was already on his way to SOUN palace with his escort. Thank God, we were able to hear a word directly from the VC today after a long expectation, his message and sympathy speech were warmly received.

Without mincing words, we were able to gather lot of information from appropriate quarters immediately we left the library where the council meeting was held. Top of the discussion was on forensic audit which has been raising a lot of controversy between the unions and government.

The No pay No work and the No audit No pay was the bone of contention. The Unions were able to make their position known while the governing council too was able to relay the position of the government. In the course of that; the ASUU stand was clearly stated that the governing council should pay all outstanding arrears of subvention and come out with sustainable plan. However, the union further stressed that there's  nothing concerning ASUU about the auditing firm. " Pay what you owed and let the system run' that ASUU cannot persuade her members to resume work on empty stomach"

In a similar case, the JAC also made its position known on the forensic audit. The governing council however pleaded to the Unions to withdraw its case from court as it is clear that the government has no moral justification and already on the loosing side. For this, the governing council chairman had to quickly made an appeal to the unions to make it a case " out of court settlement" than just a withdraw case". But whether the unions will agree to that or not is a matter of congressional decision as they hold their congress soon. The decision at the congress will also determine whether some of their members would be allowed to participate in the forensic audit exercise as pleaded by the GC for two weeks. That being the case, it's not yet ripe to say they've agreed to shift ground until after their congress.

However, it's shocking and painful that the governors who received Paris club funds amongst others could be waiting for the report of the forensic audit to sign a bond on borrowing. The governments position is to make use of the forensic audit report to borrow money from bank for the school.

While meeting is still ongoing to solve the crises, students are therefore urged to keep praying. An interim report may be submitted to the two visitors as soon as possible for further actions and way forward. Don't forget that the problem of LAUTECH is funding, we, however, hope that the two governors will release the money in their kitty now before exhausting it.

We hope they will do away with their Ego and Bow their face in shame, for they are already losing. To us, professor Afolabi is a man of integrity, as such, any attempt to stain his integrity may be at their own loss. Kindly equip the man with funds to properly reposition the school.
