Oyo state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has stated that no money will be released to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) until the completion of a proper audit of the institution’s finances.
The governor stated this on Wednesday in a brief meeting with management staff and students of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education at the State Secretariat, Agodi Ibadan.
He appealed to the management and staff of LAUTECH to cooperate with consultants engaged to carry out the audit.
He said: “We appeal to the management and academic staff of LAUTECH to allow the consultants engaged to properly audit the institution’s account.
“We will not pay any money again until the books are properly audited. It is not by force, propaganda, mischief and innuendoes that they will get result but by positive engagement.
“There is nothing wrong in auditing the school, it is simply checking on what we have done so far, particularly the amount we have committed into the school. Why are they afraid of audit?
“We appeal to them to let the auditors do their job. And if the audit report requires us to pay more money, we will pay but the ones they have collected so far, they must also account for it.”
The governor also directed the immediate reopening of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo which was shut on June 2 after violent students’ protest over welfare and teaching facilities.
Governor Ajimobi at the Wednesday meeting, acknowledged the receipt of an apology letter tendered by the management on behalf of the students. He appealed to the students to shun violence and brigandage and employ dialogue.
His words: “Our problem in this country is that we have lost our value system. Our value system has broken down but some of us would do everything possible to uphold what should be.
“Now that they have apologized, in the spirit of soberness, the Oyo state government has decided to admonish them on their engagement attitude. It is not by going on rampage and brigandage,
“It is through engagement, I can see their soberness, realization and remorse and on that basis, we agree that the school be re-opened immediately”
Responding, the Provost of the College, Dr Razak Adefabi, thanked the governor for the kind gesture noting that the school had put in place measures to forestall future occurrence.
He said the institution was working hard to improve its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to help cope with financial needs.
