WAEC To Conduct Private Exams Twice Yearly

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will soon begin the conduct of its examination for private candidates twice in a year with effect from 2017.
The council Registrar, Dr Iyi Uwadiae, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the council’s “Registrar’s Staff Appraisal Committee’’ meeting on Wednesday in Accra, Ghana.
Uwadiae said, “The West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates known as the November/December diet for private candidates will now be conducted in January/February and August/September.’’
According to him, the measure is to ensure that many private candidates, who desire the certificate for various purposes, will have the opportunity of writing the examination and acquire the certificate.
“We have concluded arrangements to commence writing of our WASSCE for private candidates twice a year from 2017.
“This will take place in January /February and August/September every year in all the member countries.
“This development, however, does not affect that of the school candidates, popularly called May/June.
“That one remains once a year for all school candidates,’’ Uwadiae said.
He explained that administering the WASSCE for private candidates twice a year was part of the projections of the council in 2017.
According to him, as part of its mandate to render qualitative service to all member nations, the council is looking forward to a more rewarding 2017.
“That is the essence of this meeting, which brings all the Heads of National Offices (HNO) from member countries together.
“This meeting takes place once a year to discuss the appraisals of the international staff in member countries and recommend members of staff that are due for promotion.
“During the meeting too, there is also a follow up action on staff with negative appraisals after which recommendations from the committee are forwarded to the international committee for ratifications.
“All these are parts of what we do in order to make the activities of the council more relevant and beneficial to our people,’’ he said.
Uwadiae lauded the HNOs for their resilience, doggedness and dedication in the face of peculiar challenges in their respective countries and for ensuring a smooth conduct of the examinations.
Describing them as the council’s foot soldiers, the registrar thanked the HNOs for the support accorded him as the overall head of the regional examination body.
“As foot soldiers of the council, I must say that they have done well and deserve the commendation of the council as we look forward to a better 2017.
“They (HNOs) have been meeting the mandate of conducting and releasing results of the various examinations within the stipulated periods and coordinating activities in their respective national offices,’’ he said.
Uwadiae said that WAEC was also looking forward to conducting its examination in many other countries with English speaking students, studying with Nigeria curriculum as possible.
“We are open to any country in Africa which desire to have us set examination for students, who are being taught with English and uses Nigeria curriculum.
“As long as these countries have all requisites needed for the conduct of our examination on ground, we will be there to carry out our mandate.
“For instance, we are currently rendering such services to some French speaking countries like Togo, Benin Republic and Cote d’ Ivoire.
“These countries approached the council and we are doing that for their English speaking students who want our certificates,’’ he said. (NAN)

The Oldest Man in the World 256 Years Breaks the Silence Before His Death and Reveals its Secrets to the World

According to a 1930 New York Times article, Wu Chung-chieh, a professor of the Chengdu University, discovered Imperial Chinese government records from 1827 congratulating Li Ching-Yuen on his 150th birthday, and further documents later congratulating him on his 200th birthday in 1877. In 1928, a New York Times correspondent wrote that many of the old men in Li’s neighborhood asserted that their grandfathers knew him when they were boys, and that he at that time was a grown man.
Li Ching Yuen reportedly began his herbalist career at the age of 10, where he gathered herbs in mountain ranges and learned of their potency for longevity. For almost 40 years, he survived on a diet of herbs such as lingzhi, goji berry, wild ginseng, he shoo wu and gotu kola and rice wine. In 1749, at the age of 71, he joined the Chinese armies as teacher of martial arts. Li was said to be a much-loved figure in his community, marrying 23 times and fathering over 200 children.According to the generally accepted tales told in his province, Li was able to read and write as a child, and by his tenth birthday had traveled in Kansu, Shansi, Tibet, Annam, Siam and Manchuria gathering herbs. For the first hundred years he continued at this occupation. Then he switched to selling herbs gathered by others. He sold lingzhi, goji berry, wild ginseng, he shou wu and gotu kola along with other Chinese herbs, and lived off a diet of these herbs and rice wine
He Wasn’t The Only One
According to one of Li’s disciples, he had once encountered an even older 500-year-old man, who taught him Qigong exercises and dietary recommendations that would help him extend his lifespan to superhuman proportions. Apart from Qigong and a herb-rich diet, what else can we learn from this Master of Longevity?
How about this: On his death bed, Li famously said, “I have done all that I have to do in this world”. Could his peaceful last words also hint at one of the biggest secrets to a long and prosperous life? It’s interesting to note that in the West, we’re often taught to believe that aging is something that must be “beaten” with high tech infrared devices and state of the art medication.
His Secret To Long Health:
Li was asked what his secret was to longevity. This was his reply: “Keep a quiet heart, sit like a tortoise, walk sprightly like a pigeon and sleep like a dog.” These were the words of advice Li gave to Wu Pei-fu, the warlord, who took Li into his house to learn the secret of extremely long life.
Li maintained that inward calm and peace of mind combined with breathing techniques were the secrets to incredible longevity. Obviously, his diet would have played a large role. But its fascinating that the old living person in recorded history attributes his long life to his state of mind.
Why Is This So Hard To Believe?
With the average lifespan for the Western world currently sitting between 70-85 years, the thought of someone living over 100 years old seems like quite the stretch. The thought of someone living over 200 years old seems extremely suspicious. But why don’t we believe that people can live this long?
We have to keep in mind that some people in this world don’t live a grueling 9-5 lifestyle, they don’t have to deal with the stresses of debt, they aren’t breathing polluted city air, and they exercise regularly. They don’t eat refined sugars or flour, or any foods that have had pesticides sprayed on them. They aren’t living off of the standard American diet.
They aren’t eating fatty meats, sugary deserts, and genetically modified foods. No antibiotics. No alcohol and no tobacco. Their diets not only exclude junk foods that we so often indulge in, they also include superfoods and herbs which are like steroids for our organs and immune system.
They also spend their spare time in nature practicing breathing techniques and meditating which have been proven to improve mental, physical, and emotional health. They keep things simple, get proper sleep, and spend a great deal of time in nature under the sun. When we get a chance to relax in the sun, we feel instantly rejuvenated and call this a “vacation”. Imagine spending a lifetime doing that in the mountains, and combining that with perfect mental, spiritual, and physical well-being.
I do not doubt for a minute that if we all did the things we knew we were supposed to do, that living to be 100 years old would be commonplace. When we treat our bodies right, who knows how long we can live for?

Kaduna To Spend N2.25bn Feeding Senior Secondary Students

Students in boarding secondary schools in Kaduna State will now each be fed at a cost of N300 per day. This follows approval by the Kaduna State Executive Council that the allocation per student be increased N180 to N300 per day. This will cost the government N2.25bn every school year to feed 27,501 students.

The government took the decision to increase the feeding allocation after noting the hike in the prices of foodstuff across the country. A market survey conducted by the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics between June and September 2016 revealed that there has been a 30% to 40% increase in the prices of food stuff.

This is the second upward review of the feeding allocation this year. In January2016, the Kaduna State Government,in trying to improve the quality of meals given to students in the state boarding schools, had approved N60 per meal as against the N44 per meal that was budgeted in the past. This N60 per meal was piloted in six schools, whose feeding was outsourced to private caterers. Following the significant improvement in the quality of the meals, the scheme will now be applied to all the 31 boarding schools owned by the state government.

This decision means that each student will be fed at N100 per meal, up from the previous N60. Professor Jonathan Nok, the Commissioner of Education, said that “the goal is to ensure that students get the adequate nutrition they need to boost their intellectual capability, stimulate healthy growth andensure they get a well-rounded education”.

Feeding for students in the Junior Secondary Schools in Kaduna State is free, in line with the nine-year free education policy of the present administration. But the Senior Secondary Schools are not yet fully free. Parents and the State Government share the cost of feeding.

Linda Ikeji As A Contestant At The 2003 Miss Nigeria Pageant (Throwback Photos)

Throwback photos of Ex-model and Nigeria's Top Blogger, Linda Ikeji at the 2003 Miss Nigeria Pageant.

Linda Ikeji has really come a long way.

She posted the photos on her Instagram page and wrote;

"This is me participating at the 2003 Miss Nigeria pageant. I desperately wanted to win because I believed I could use the platform to achieve my other dreams..but I didn't even make Top 10 & I remember thinking it was the end of everything I had planned for my future. I felt like a failure for weeks following the pageant. I was mostly in a daze, wondering what to do next. I thought being Miss Nigeria was the best thing that could happen to me. If only I knew that God had better plans for me. Because you see, if I had won that pageant, I never would have - 3 years later - thought of starting a gossip blog. I probably would have thought it was beneath me as a former queen...lol. You see, sometimes, some of the most amazing blessings happen when things don't turn out the way we hoped it would. We think its the end when its just a bend leading us through the right path. You have to trust that God knows what He's doing in your life. Trust Him and trust your journey. All the best!"

Met our superstar of the week Oni Babajide, OAU's Best Graduating Student

Good evening sir, can we meet you?
My name is Oni Babajide David, I was admitted into OAU in 2010/2011 into the faculty of Agriculture and department of Agricultural economics, am an indigene of Ekiti State
Wow… You graduated as the best graduating student for the 2015 session,

what CGPA did you graduated with?
4.88 out of 5.0

Did you picked Agricultural economics as your first choice when applying for the university?
No, I didn’t. I picked medicine and surgery but due to the Fact that I chose OAU as my second choice of university, I was advised to change my course to Agricultural economics. Though I had enough mark to gain admission into dentistry or pharmacy but for medicine I needed 6 marks.

When did you started leading your class, did it all start in the university?
Yes it started in the university…though I really don’t have penchant for leading the class while in secondary school. All my concern was to get a good grade so that my mother will not give me massive beating.

What was your source of inspiration when you were admitted into the university?
My source of inspiration is God and my humble background. Also, my thirst to make history and Dr D.K Olukoya’s message on beating the best and being the best. Dr D.K Olukoya is also my source of inspiration.

Did you have Vision to graduate as the best when you were admitted?
Truthfully, I never had vision to be the best in OAU but I had vision to be the best in my faculty. God just used my class rep to speak to me that I should strive to be the best on OAU campus

Which secondary school did you graduate from?
Oladipo Alayande school of science, Ekiti-state

What was your least grade as an undergraduate?
C…part one practicals like physics

Did you take any decision as a fresh student then that helped you in the course of your study?
Yes of course… I decided to beat the best and be the best.

What was you CGPA in part one and farm year?
Part one cgpa was 4.83…farm year cgpa was 4.87…part 3 cgpa was 4.90. I had 5.0 like three times.

What was your darkest moment in OAU?
Darkest moment in OAU was when I had 85A in a course Slm 202 and I was given 54C..

What was your reaction to this?
I complained to the lecturer in charge and he said I was even upgraded to get a C and I should go and manage it. But I had to call my prayer partners and we prayed that day. I was called the following day to come and check my result in the lecturers office as the error was done to most of the students in my faculty. Getting to his office I discovered that I had 85A which was the highest in that course in my faculty. He disagreed and went to check raw score sheet before he decided to paste the result on the board.

Were you involved in any extracurricular activities?
Yes…I was very much involved. I am not a one sided student. I partook in Students union activities…I was the PRO for the students union election petition committee in the 2014/2015 session that is TYs administration… Also an active parliamentarian in faculty of agriculture for two sessions…lastly, I was involved in fellowship activities too as a worker and an exco

Which fellowship did you attended on campus?
Mountain of fire and miracles campus fellowship…MFMCF

How did you feel when you knew you are the best Graduating Student?
I felt like I won a champions league or ballon d’or…and I am happy to break the jaws of the technology faculty, who used to get the award overtime.
What advice can you give to any student who wishes to graduate with flying colors has you’ve done?
Pray like you have not read and Read like you have not prayed…work hard and work smart…try to beat the best and be the best.

How many hours did you invest in sleeping and studying per day?
Sleeping…I sleep for a minimum of 6hours…I study erratically but will just say I study for a minimum of 6 hours per day too

What’s your advice to students studying agriculture in Nigeria but wants to cross to the so-called professional courses?
The first question I should ask them is that who made those courses professional? Is it not the society? Then if you are still allowing the society to dictate for you then you will live the rest of your life as a societal slave. The truth is that agriculture is a calling it is either you decide to accept the calling and propound the gospel of agriculture or you decline. Just ensure that any course you study beat the best and be the best!!! Because if you are not the best doctor, your patients will die, if you are not the best farmer, your crops will die also. Then my attitude towards life is just beat the best and be the best

Where do you see your self in 5 years time?
I see myself breaking international records and on the pathway to becoming minister agriculture in Nigeria… Just like my role model Dr Akinwunmi Adesina who is an alumnus of my department and now the president of African development bank

Do you have any special shoutout to make?
Yes…shoutout to my girlfriend Oluwafunmibi, to my school daddy Olubisi Oluwasegun…to my blooders Olaoluwa, otitoloju. Also to all invictus 2015 set. Shout out to bible study, ushering, ICT/Business subgroup members in MFMCF OAU. Lastly, shoutout to my mother Mrs Oni Adebola and my sister Oni Morayo. I Love and Cherish you all!!!

What is your advice for ScholarZine Ng?

My advice for ScholarZine Ng is that continue projecting scholars and success of youngsters and in no time you will get the rewards of doing what’s right. Also, strive to beat the best and be the best amongst your peers… Thank you very much!!!
We wish the very best in life. Go out there to beat the remaining best sirs

A suspected fake medical doctor (name withheld) was Friday arrested in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, for allegedly being in possession of a fake certificate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

He was nabbed when he presented the university certificate as well as National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate for registration/revalidation exercise at the state Ministry of Health’s headquarters in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

New Telegraph learnt that the arrest was consequent upon the suspect’s attempt to revalidate his facility (God Heals Medical Centre) at Sango-Ota area of the state, which had earlier been sealed off by the state monitoring team.

It was alleged that he had carried out all kinds of surgeries without the necessary expertise, with many people becoming victims of his ineptitude.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, immediately handed over the suspect to the police.

Ipaye said the state government remained committed to ridding the state off quackery, particularly in the health sector.

While noting that the activities of quacks endanger human lives, the commissioner disclosed that several suspects have been arrested in the past.
