Pictures Of NFF Branded Wine Bottles For Use After Tomorrow's Match -

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) are planning a big champagne party for the Super Eagles if they defeat the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Saturday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The NFF, according a top source who pleaded anonymity, revealed that a wine company was partnered who agreed to provide cartoons of wine for the players and the rest of the officials to celebrate the Eagles victory.

The Eagles will qualify for the 2018 World Cup if they defeat Zambia here in Uyo.

“I’ve seen many people criticise the move but I won’t comment on them. We will stay focused to ensure that our objective is achieved on Saturday,” the NFF top official told Completesportsnigeria.com concerning the pictures of branded champagne bottles circulating on social media since late Thursday night.
“We plan to win and celebrate our victory which I think is ideal for every team and theor administrators.”

A message on the cartoon of the wine reads: “We thank the President, and all Nigerians for supporting our teams and particularly the governor of Akwa Ibom State and the people of other states.”

Nigeria lead African qualifying Group B with 10 points from four games, three ahead of second-placed Zambia.

Forget Mac versus PC, or iPhone versus Android — the next great battle is between Google and Amazon (GOOG, GOOGL, AMZN)

  • On Wednesday, Google is expected to announce a smorgasbord of new hardware that will have its Google Assistant technology built in.
  • Amazon last week launched a slew of new products that incorporate its rival Alexa agent.
  • The battle between Assistant and Alexa is part of a wider war between Google and Amazon.
Every new era of computing has had its hallmark rivalry.
IBM versus Digital. Apple versus IBM. Mac versus Windows. iPhone versus Android.
Now a new wave of computing is upon us. And for my money, this generation's big fight will be between Google and Amazon.
Google looks set to fire the next round of volleys Wednesday with a blitz of hardware announcements. We're expecting to hear about new Pixel smartphones, a tiny version of the Google Home smart speaker, and a new Chromebook laptop.
The new products are likely to have a common thread: Google Assistant, the search giant's voice-based artificial intelligence technology.
Google's original Pixel phones, which it launched last year, were the first to have Assistant baked in, much like Apple's Siri. The Home smart speaker, which Google also released a year ago, is built around Assistant; talking to the device is the primary way to interact with it.
Not only are the new products likely to stick with Assistant, but it looks as if Google's low-cost Chromebook laptops will soon get the technology too.
Google's impending announcements can be thought of as an answer to Amazon, whose Alexa is the pioneering smart voice assistant behind its popular Echo smart speakers. Last week, Amazon unveiled a barrage of Alexa-powered hardware, including three new Echo smart speakers, a pair of accessories, and a new Fire TV-streaming box.

The Amazon barrage

The voice-assistant battle, which is playing out through the new hardware, is just one front in a wider war between Amazon and Google.
The companies already compete directly in cloud computing. Amazon has refused to carry Google's Chromecast streaming sticks. It has developed its own version of Android for its tablets and Fire TV devices that doesn't link to Google's Play app store. And Google is trying to displace Amazon as the starting point for online shopping.
But Alexa versus Assistant is perhaps the companies' most visible battle and possibly the most consequential.
For Amazon, Alexa has basically unlimited upside. If Alexa and its Echo smart speakers don't catch on with a mainstream audience, Amazon can pull the cord and go back to being an enormously successful retailer. But if they do become hits, they're likely to reinforce Amazon's position as the go-to place to shop, since one of Alexa's key features is making it easy to buy stuff from Amazon.

That direct connection between Alexa and Amazon's web store poses a threat to Google. Many consumers are already turning to Amazon first when searching for products to buy, rather than using Google's search engine. Advertisers are catching on and starting to shift their ad dollars toward Amazon and away from Google.
That's a big problem for Google, since ads are the company's bread and butter. And if Alexa makes it even easier to search for products and gets widely adopted, Google stands to lose even more.
Google's not sitting still. It's been testing ways to have Assistant deliver ads. But the company has struggled to figure out how to do it in a way that doesn't repel users. An early experiment withusing the Google Home speaker to advertise Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" resulted in user backlash.

How Google fights back

Despite such problems, I actually prefer Assistant over Alexa, because in my experience, Assistant is way better at answering questions. It's smart enough to know both silly trivia ("OK Google, what day was the battle of Hogwarts?") and serious household tips ("OK Google, how do you dispose of a fire extinguisher?").
Assistant's ability to competently handle such queries points to Google's big advantage. No one matches the search giant's prowess at organizing information. And the more useful Google Assistant is — the better it is at answering questions — the less likely it is that consumers will want to use Alexa or any other smart assistant.
Google's moves to develop Assistant, put it in a range of its own products, and license it for use in others can be seen as a defensive move. It represents the company's effort to thwart the threat posed by Alexa of redirecting consumers to Amazon rather than to Google.

But Google's not just back on its heels. The company has gone on the offensive also. It teamed up with Walmart to offer voice shopping via the Google Home speaker, for example. The partnership isn't as seamless as Amazon and Alexa, but it's a good start. It could prevent Google customers from turning to Alexa — and possibly lure Amazon fans to Google.
Amazon has shown how relentless it can be in pushing Alexa. As Google makes its announcements Wednesday morning, the search giant carries the burden both of staving off Amazon's voice assistant and of proving that its own product can add something to the market.
No matter what, it will be fascinating to watch the battle play out.

Monkeypox Outbreak Hits Bayelsa, Doctor, 10 Others Quarantined - Health -

Fear has gripped the residents of Bayelsa State as a deadly viral epidemic known as “monkeypox” has broken out in the state.

According to the World Health Organisation, monkeypox is a rare disease that occurs primarily in remote parts of Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests.

“The monkeypox virus can cause a fatal illness in humans and, although it is similar to human smallpox which has been eradicated, it is much milder,” WHO says.

It was authoritatively learnt that a medical doctor and 10 persons who came down with the monkeypox had been quarantined in an isolation centre at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

The isolation centre was reportedly created by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and the epidemiological team of the state’s Ministry of Health to control the spread of the virus.

The NCDC and the epidemiological team were said to be tracking 49 other persons who were said to have come in contact with persons who were already infected.

The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, confirmed the development, saying that samples of the virus had been sent to the World Health Organisation laboratory in Dakar, Senegal, for confirmation.

He described monkeypox as a viral illness caused by a group of viruses that include chicken pox and smallpox, adding that the first case was noticed in the Democratic Republic of Congo and subsequent outbreaks in West African region.

The commissioner explained that the virus has the Central African and the West African types, saying that the the West African type is milder and has no records of mortality.

Etebu stated, “Recently in Bayelsa State, we noticed a suspected outbreak of monkeypox. It has not been confirmed. We have sent samples to the World Health Organisation’s reference laboratory in Dakar, Senegal.

”When that comes out, we will be sure that it is confirmed. But from all indications, it points towards it.

”As the name implies, the virus was first seen in monkey, but can also be found in all bush animals such as rats, squirrels and antelopes.

”The source is usually all animals. It was first seen in monkeys and that is why it is called monkeypox. But every bush animals such as rats, squirrels, and antelopes are involved.

“So, the secretions from particularly dead animals are highly contagious.”

He listed the symptoms of monkeypox as severe headache, fever, back pains, etc., noting that most worrisome of all the signs are rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.

The commissioner said the rashes are usually frightening and usually spread to the entire body of infected persons.

Speaking on the Bayelsa case, Etebu stated, “We noticed the first index case from Agbura, where somebody was purported to have killed and eaten a monkey and after that, the people who are neighbours and families started developing the rashes.

“We have seen cases from as far as Biseni. We invited the NCDC together with our own epidemiological team from the Bayelsa Ministry of Health.

“We have been able to trace most of the people who have come in contact with the patients.

“So far, we have 10 patients and we have created an isolation centre at the NDUTH and most of them are on admission and we are following up the 49 cases that we are suspecting might come down with the illness.

“As a state, we are taking care of all the expenses of all the isolated cases.

“The disease has an incubation period and it is also self-limiting in the sense that within two to four weeks, you get healed and it confers you with immunity for life.

“We have mobilised virtually every arsenal at our disposal in terms of sensitising the general public and making them aware by radio programmes, jingles and fliers. So, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has mobilised fully to Bayelsa State. We are on top of the situation.

“The only thing I will tell the general public is to observe hand hygiene and ensure they don’t come in contact with dead animals and their secretions. The disease is air-borne too. So when you come down with it, it is very infectious.

“People should wash their hands whenever they go in or come out of their houses. If they come in touch with animals, they should ensure that they wash their hands.

“They should be very vigilant. People should report any similar cases to the relevant authorities.

“A lot of people have come down with the symptoms, but they are hiding in their houses. If they hide, there is the propensity for the infection to spread.

“It is better to quarantine them and treat them so that we can interrupt the spread of the disease.

“People should be calm and they shouldn’t get frightened. The state has distributed personal protective equipment to workers and they are using them.”

AREGBSSOLA'S PROMISED FUND FINALLY CONFIRMED IN LAUTECH KITTY, AWAITS AJIMOBI OWN

AGAIN :

AREGBSSOLA'S PROMISED FUND FINALLY CONFIRMED IN LAUTECH KITTY, AWAITS AJIMOBI OWN

By Oyedeji Ahmed ( LMP )

Though, the report was that Aregbesola released 1 billion, but in the school kitty, only 930 million was confirmed. Anyway, that's a minor issue. The main problem now is when will oyo state government release her own trench ?

First and foremost, I need to state clearly that no any amount of money has been released by the oyo state government as report earlier had it. According to a news, it was reported that oyo state government also released 500 million, a statement credited to the SSG of the state. But with our little investigation, we confirmed that as untrue. Hence, we urge the students to disregard that for now pending the time the state government will truly release her own promised fund probably this week.

Aregbesola has demonstrated his own unwavering support, it's now left for Governor AJIMOBI to do as promised. Thank God he said this openly during an interview that the government will give the school a maximum of 3 months grants, but what is still delaying it ? I don't expect him to be the one still delaying the money. Why ? because we always believe he's more committed to the school than his counterpart. But now that Aregbesola has taken the lead, one could easily say that Aregbesola he's more concerned about our plight than him. Everyday, they keep saying it is under processing, I ask, for like how many days do we still have to wait to process the fund? This is taking longer than expected.

Yes, the school management alongside the other tertiary institutions in oyo state is  holding meeting today. But that's not enough to expect the release of the promised fund in the aftermath of the meeting. The meeting will have no or little effect on the release of the promised fund. The call for the meeting is probably to discuss on mode of payment, 25% monthly subvention and salary palaver.

Meanwhile, the management and council representative will be meeting with the unions tomorrow by 10am ( 5th of October, 2017 ).  But my greatest worry now is to what to be discussed since the oyo state promised fund yet to be released. If not, I'd have been full of confidence that the unions will summon for congress afterward had it been the oyo state fund has been released. But we are still expecting it to be out before the end of this week or next-week.

Anyway, let's continue to pray that God touch the heart of Governor AJIMOBI to be able to release the fund any moment from now. We can't just afford to wait any longer.

We are getting there. Keep the hope alive.

4th of October, 2017.
