Redeemers University Commissions Centre For Genomics And Infectious Diseases

You Are A Standard Bearer, NUC Boss Eulogizes Redeemer’s University

The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed has commended Redeemer’s University for its exploits in safeguarding the health of the nation through its African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases. Professor Abubakar Rasheed made this remark during a facility visit to the University recently.

He explained that he had intended to create time since he assumed office to visit some standard bearers among universities in Nigeria in order to see how they are performing but due to his busy schedule he could not come until God’s appointed time.

The NUC scribe said that the private universities are blazing the trail through Redeemer’s University, Ede and African University of Science and Technology, Abuja who stood out among others through their excellent proposal presentations during the rigorous selection process that led to their emergence as the only two private universities including eight others African Centre of Excellence projects.

He lauded the University for having the best performing centre of excellence among its peers in sub-Sahara-Africa, adding that NUC is proud of the feats achieved by ACEGID.

He congratulated the Centre Director and his team at the Redeemer’s University African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases, Professor Christian Happi, for his very logical presentation during his facility visit.

According to Professor Abubakar Rasheed , “As a mark of respect for this presentation, we are going to invite. Professor Happi to Abuja to deliver an inaugural lecture which would have in attendance all heads of Departments of Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and other related fields including industry leaders”.

Landmark University Begins Rice Production (Photos)

e Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adeniyi Olayanju has reiterated the commitment of the University to becoming an incubation centre for Agripreneurs and agricultural practitioners as catalysts for national economic development.

Speaking during the launch of Landmark University Rice on the 23rd November, 2017 at the Landmark Commercial Farm Sales Centre, the Vice-Chancellor said the University’s blueprint for the agro-enterprise accommodates a full-fledged rice processing mill for a large-scale rice production.

“Production of rice is a value addition to our context. We did not stop at just planting and harvesting but have gone into packaging for the local and national market. It is a confirmation of the reality of continuous rice production and the increased capacity for teaching and research in cereal production,” he stated.

He recalled that this phase of rice production was flagged in August, 2017, adopting the Sawah eco-technology introduced by the National Centre Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), Ilorin. He said with this success, the University is expanding the hectrage of both upland and lowland in the next phase.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated God for the milestone which he described as a fulfilment of God’s plan for the University in actualising her vision. In the same vein, he commended the efforts that went into the reality and further called on all stakeholders for more support towards developing other products that will enhance the vision of the University for a Global Impact.

The Director of Landmark University Farms, Dr John Izebere while appreciating the passion of the Vice-Chancellor for the actualisation the University’s agrarian vision in terms of product development, expressed happiness over the milestone.

While commenting on the development, the Director said 3 of the equipment used in the processing of the rice were fabricated by a Landmark University graduate of Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering, Mr. Clinton Okonkwo who is currently undertaking his national youth service (NYSC) in the University’s Teaching and Research Farm.

World Cup: Super Eagles To Play Egypt, Two Others In Friendlies - Sports

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Egypt and two other countries in preparations ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The friendly matches will be played between January and May next year, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has said.

The Secretary General of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Muhammed Sanusi, revealed this while speaking on the sidelines of NFF’s 2018 budget defence with the House of Representatives Committee on Sports.

He said, although no final decision has been reached, the three friendly matches would be played in Abuja before the World Cup to be hosted by Russia in June.

He said, “We’re looking at three countries. We want to play in Abuja. We haven’t finalized, but Egypt is one of them.”

On inviting additional players to join the Eagles, Sanusi said, “We always allow the coach to do that. We don’t have a hand in the selection of players. It’s up to the coach to bring in the players he wants to bring.”

The committee, chaired by Goni Lawan Bukar (APC, Yobe) had earlier commended the NFF leadership under its president, Amanju Pinnick for bringing sanity to the Nigerian football.

The committee said though it was yet to get the details of the 2018 NFF proposal, it would give it much priority and make adequate allocations for the federation to succeed in its programmes.
