Things you need to know About USMLE (United States Medical License Examination)

United States Medical license examination is an examination which medical officer (medical doctors) sit down to write when they want to continue there medical practice in the United States of America. The exam is written  by medical doctors who had completed their medical degrees in any other universities outside the United States and Canada.
The following criteria must be met before sitting for the examination.
-one major USMLE 2017 eligibility criteria is that all international students planning to appear for the exam need to be enrolled or have graduated from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. 

The examination is written in 3 major steps of which after completing the step you will be allow to continue your medical degree in the United State of America. 


Here’s is the USMLE eligibility 2017 for Step 1:
  • As per USMLE eligibility criteria 2017, the candidate should be enrolled in or graduate of a medical school outside of the US and Canada, which is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Meets ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certification eligibility criteria. ECFMG assesses international medical students who want to enter into a residency programme in the USA.  ECFMG certification is available on ECFMG’s Interactive Web Applications (IWA).
  • Must meet USMLE eligibility 2017 requirements at the time of application.
USMLE Step 2 eligibility 2017:
The USMLE Step 2 has two parts -- Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Clinical Science (CS). The difference between the two parts is that while CK is paper based test, whereas in CS, test takers are put through a simulated patient care process where they have to take care of standardised patients i.e., people trained to portray real patients. However, the USMLE eligibility criteria for both the tests are same. 
Here’s is the USMLE eligibility criteria 2017 for Step 2 (CK and CS):
  • Should be enrolled in or graduate of a medical school outside of the US and Canada, which is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Meets ECFMG certification eligibility criteria.
  • Must meet USMLE 2017 eligibility requirements at time of application.
USMLE Step 3 eligibility 2017:
The USMLE Step 3 is the third and final round in the USMLE exam process. Unlike the other rounds, the USMLE eligibility criteria requires that the candidate not only clears round 1 and 2 but also holds a US or Canadian MD or equivalent. Step 3 is a two-day exam divided between Foundations of Independent Practice (FIP) and Advanced Clinical Medicine (ACM). Clearing USMLE Step3 leads to the final licence for students to practice medicine in the USA.
Here’s is the USMLE eligibility 2017 for Step 3:
  • Candidate should have cleared Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS
  • Possess a degree equivalent to a US and Canadian MD degree from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Candidates who hold valid Fifth Pathway certificates issued through December 31, 2009 are eligible to meet Step 3 USMLE 2017 eligibility requirements for applications
  • Candidates who do hold Fifth Pathway certificates that are not accepted by the USMLE programme have to obtain ECFMG certification.
